Santorini, Greece |
The island of Santorini Greece is one of the most Beautiful islands in the world.it located in the Cyclades islands, middle of the Greek Islands of the Aegean Sea.Santorini has a famous volcanic past, which has very much shaped the island that you see today, creating a surreal and rather unique landscape in places. The water-filled 'caldera' crater remains a familiar sight to all those who visit Santorini and is surrounded by a wall of colourful cliffs, which are often cram-packed with charming houses.Santorini is one of the most famous islands in the world.Fira is the island capital and stands next to the caldera itself. Whilst Fira does not actually offers its own EOT (Greek National Tourist Information Organisation), it does contain a number of helpful travel agents, which are usually only too happy to impart their tourism knowledge.
Santorini is famous for its spectacular sunsets. The village of Oia on the northern tip of the island is a hugely popular sunset viewing site because there is an uninterrupted view of the sun as it finally sinks below the horizon. From farther south down the caldera edge, the last of the setting sun can be obscured by the islands of Nea Kameni and Thirasia. Take your pick, however. You can enjoy most of the sunset from almost anywhere along the rim of the caldera, especially if you want to avoid the sometimes feverish crush at Oia.The island of Santorini is related to the myth of Atlantis, the amazing views from the villages of Fira, Oia perched on cliffs, santorinian sunset, the black and red beaches, the wine...
which measures about 12 by 7 km is surrounded by 300 m high, steep cliffs on three sides. The main island slopes downward to the Aegean Sea. On the fourth side, the lagoon is separated from the sea by another much smaller island called Therasia; the lagoon is connected to the sea in two places, in the northwest and southwest. The caldera being 400m deep makes it possible for all but the largest ships to anchor anywhere in the protected bay; there is also a newly built marina in Vlychada on the southwestern coast. The region first became volcanically active around 3–4 million years ago, though volcanism on Thera began around 2 million years ago with the extrusion of dacitic lavas from vents around the Akrotiri.
