Kankaria is the biggest lake in the city of Ahmedabad.Kankaria Lake is a multisided lake that was built by Sultan Qutab-ud-Din in the year 1451.Kankaria Lake is one of the most favorite picnic spots of the people of Ahmedabad.and State Gujarat.It is basically an artificial lake with thirty four sides. Lying on the south eastern side of the Ahmedabad city, the lake also has a fascinating island summer palace.
Kankaria Lake was built by Sultan Kutubuddin in 15th century. The work was completed in 1451 CE and was known as "Qutub Hojj" or "Hauj-e-Kutub" .It was used for bathing by the kings. It had a water purification system but it has been lost with the time. At one point of the circular lake, there opens a walkway which later merges into a garden called Nagina Wadi (which means beautiful garden in Urdu) that is located in the centre of the lake. With an approximate circumference of 1.4 miles (2.3 km), it represents the regale history of Ahmedabad. It is a 34-sided polygon having steps which leading down to water level.

The pleasing view of the lake, the humming and chirping of birds and the greenery bordering the lake will make you fall in love with this place. You can also avail the boating facility. Kankaria Lake provides a beautiful view of the sunset. There is also a zoo and children's park located nearby the lake.
